Blessingways
Blessingway is a Native American Indian tradition celebrating a variety of rites of passage, especially birth, womanhood (menarche) and marriage. It is a time out of our lives, unlike other days, set apart from ordinary living.
The process creates a picture of success and sends it into the future as the honored person’s personal pathway, full of physical and psychic strength.
Blessingway acknowledges that the course of life is about to change and surrounds this change with positivity. The blessed one emerges transformed by the power and magic of this special tradition, which restores some of the meaning into lost customs that mark our personal histories.
Some of the features of Blessingway celebrations are: singing, dancing, blessings, gift giving (with symbolic significance) and various rituals that mark the changes that are taking place.

Through the ritual of Blessingway, the pregnant woman is encouraged to feel her power, to visualize her success, and to feel a part of the incredible flow of nature, as others imbue her with honor, strength, appreciation and love.
The ritual ceremony honors and cares for the pregnant woman and incorporates many empowering elements that symbolize the transition that is about to take place in the lives of this woman, her unborn child, and her family.

Blessingway into Womanhood takes notice of the transition of menarche, the beginning of puberty, which marks a woman’s capacity for fertility. It is the celebration of a girl becoming a woman, surrounded by her community at this momentous change in her life.

As with all Blessingway, the young woman is invited to feel her power, to envision her success, and feel a part of the rhythms of life, while her community empowers her with honor, love, courage and strength.

Blessingway is a powerful ceremony that highlights the meaning of transitions in life. A bridal Blessingway acknowledges the union between two individuals, and it does this by gathering women together to help the bride on her journey of marriage.
The process creates a picture of success and sends it into the future as the bride’s personal pathway, full of emotional and psychic power. As we move consciously into this process it empowers us in a magical way, making this day a transformative event for us all.
It brings a deeper context to a bridal shower, where we can purposely express our blessings and wishes to the upcoming bride. This is a time of touch, laughter, tears, and sacredness, all wrapped up together.
